This assignment was kind of a bummer...because of the photo size and pixel limitations. So, I found all my awesome pictures, they met the requirements (5 different sources, see if you can guess where each came from!), and I was ready to post them to Picasa. UNfortunately, I then spent the next half hour re-sizing them to the appropriate dimensions. Not super fun. On the flip side, however, I can now re-size like a pro.
Hi, Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteSome things to keep in mind: resizing and compressing images is really only a practice you need to know if you plan to upload multimedia content to the web or if you plan to share files by posting them somewhere, i.e. BlackBoard, the PLP, or some other professional, collaborative digital space. Image files when not properly formatted look terrible online, and, if too large, can take forever to upload and open. Think back in the day (before Facebook and other image sharing sites) when someone sent you an improperly sized photo on email attachment.
And so, because many of your TPTE 486 artifacts must eventually be housed in the PLP, taking the time to compress the digital images will save you tons of headaches later -- believe me!
That said, all the popular file-sharing sites have built-in uploaders that do all the work for you. Again, think of Facebook, etc. Learning to resize and compress your own images inside a photo editor is sort of like learning to make a recipe from scratch when there are perfectly good instant dinners out there! Maybe not a good analogy??
Ahhh, that does make sense if we're putting them into the PLP later. I like that analogy...although I wish a properly formatted image was as good as home-made apple pie.
